Hammers of Peace, a documentary directed and produced by Samu Gabor ’24 during his first year at Sarah Lawrence, is garnering critical acclaim on the film festival circuit and is slated to stream on indiepix.com in November. The documentary, which shares the story of the Grady family and their involvement with the Plowshares movement to take a stand against nuclear weapons, was named the Best Documentary at this year’s Ithaca Film Festival. In addition, the film took Grand Prize overall and first place in the Student Film Category at the Barrymore Film Center’s Short Film Festival, and was a finalist in the Aphrodite Film Awards. Hammers of Peace was made in 2020—Gabor’s first year at Sarah Lawrence—in faculty member and alumnus Damani Baker’s Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking class.

Currently a sophomore at Sarah Lawrence, Gabor started making films at age 9 and today runs his own production company, GSTFilmstudio, and produces, directs, and writes commercial, documentary, fiction, and non-fiction short films aimed at commenting on issues facing society and sparking thought and discussion among viewers.
